"How much does a website cost?" is one of the most common questions, and the honest answer is: it depends. Some sites cost a few hundred euros, others tens of thousands. The difference isn't a whim – it's what actually sits behind the words "building a website".
What makes up the price
A website's cost usually consists of several parts:
- Design – whether a ready-made template is used, or a custom design built around your brand.
- Number of pages and features – a simple business-card page and an online shop with payments are completely different in scope.
- Content – texts, photos, translations. Quality content is often forgotten when budgeting.
- Technical foundation – speed, mobile version, security and search optimisation (SEO), so the site is found at all.
The stages involved
A proper website build happens in stages: clarifying needs, preparing the structure and design, development, adding content, testing and launch. Each stage affects both the price and the final result – skipping them isn't worth it.
Template or custom solution
Ready-made templates (e.g. Wix or WordPress themes) are a cheaper start, but over time often limit speed, SEO and customisation. A custom-built site costs more, but is faster, more secure and grows with the business. We migrated this very site from Wix to a modern solution precisely for speed and SEO – we write about it in our client stories.
What to look for when choosing a developer
Don't compare the price number alone – compare what's included in it. Ask whether the site will be fast and mobile-friendly, who will own the code and access, and whether SEO basics will be taken care of. A cheap quote with none of that ends up costing more.
