More and more companies want to train their team to work with artificial intelligence. The first question is often whether funding is available. The short answer: there is no dedicated "AI training" grant in Lithuania, but there is a general measure that also fits AI and digital-skills training – the competence voucher.
There is no dedicated "AI training" grant
EU calls with "artificial intelligence" in the title usually fund building and deploying AI solutions, not employee courses. So the thing to look for is not "AI training funding" but a general employee-skills measure.
The competence voucher – the main route
The competence voucher is state (EU-funded) support that reimburses the cost of training for employed workers. The measure was run by INVEGA, and the list of training providers and programmes was administered by "Versli Lietuva".
- Reimbursement – around 80% for small and medium companies, around 70% for large ones.
- Amount – historically up to EUR 4,500 per employee.
- Who – companies that have operated for at least a year and have insured employees.
The condition people forget: an approved provider
The key condition is that the training must come from an approved list of providers and programmes. There are two ways to meet it:
- Choose an already-registered provider. The most practical route: training is delivered through an institution already on the list with an included programme.
- Register your own programme. Providers face high requirements (historically the right to run at least 5 accredited study programmes or a formal vocational training licence), so for small companies this route is often too hard.
The Employment Service – more for jobseekers
Support from the Employment Service (UŽT) is mostly for the unemployed and jobseekers, not for teams already in work. It fits company team training less often.
What to do if you want to use it
- Check whether the measure is currently active on the INVEGA and "Versli Lietuva" websites. Calls open and close periodically.
- Make sure the training you choose is on the approved providers list.
- Prepare the documents: company details, a list of employees and the training programme.
Rules, amounts and deadlines change, so always verify with official sources before acting.
